Dress Shopping

I feel I’m having withdrawals from not being able to shop. This dry spell is very long, especially when I see the beautiful stock available online. Collectif sells the most gorgeous vintage clothing ranging from the 40′s to the 60′s – swoon! And don’t get me started on the Dutch shop Top Vintage

Remember my Dolores Cherry Dress, shoes and bag from Collectif? *sigh*

Delicacy

I’m a sucker for a good foreign film, thus I had no choice but to buy Delicacy” on iTunes after it’s been haunting me for a month now. While in London I rented this beautiful love story for half the price since I wasn’t sure what to expect – especially after my disappointment with “Sightseers”. A thriller which I had – somehow – mistaken for a romantic comedy (it helps to read the fine print). “Delicacy” is a French film starring the gorgeous, and in my opinion, the modern day answer to Audrey Hepburn, Audrey Tautou.

Three years after the death of her husband, Nathalie falls in love with her very awkward Swedish co-worker, but only after a series of laugh-out-loud moments…it is a brilliant film, go watch it!

I don’t normally review films on the blog, but I have been thinking about this ever since I’ve watched it for the first time. I am looking forward to watch it again – as soon as it has finished downloading, which has been feeling like forever with this extremely slow African internet we have…“Delicacy” is a delicious feast for the eyes and deserves a flawless 5 out of 5

Decadent Brunch

We were up early on Monday for a business meeting and in the rush didn’t even bother with breakfast. Afterwards we stopped at Brooklyn Mall for a quick bite, only to find the entire mall had a power outage (in true SA fashion). There’s a rolling blackout in the whole of Pretoria, and we are waiting our turn… :-( . At Waterkloof Corner we had luck and settled in at Isabella’s for their signature deliciously decadent french toast drenched in berries and marscarpone and topped with crispy bacon.

Messy but delicious

Full tummy

A Family Affair

Sunday was the first time in two years that we have all been together under one roof as a family, and also the first time in six years since I’ve seen my cousin. So it was only appropriate to have a little get-together :-)

A Day at the Zoo

We’ve had the pleasure to have my parents over for a visit, and it was a wonderful couple of days! Henning took leave and we planned a whole itinerary. We went to the Zoo at Hartbeespoortdam and introduced them to their first taste of Indian cuisine!

Wide open spaces to explore

Monkeying around

Giant Tortoises

The first taste of Indian – and they loved it!

A Messy Flight

I have finally found the time to tell you about our “almost flight” from London to Johannesburg – sorry for the delay ;-) ! Henning and I had ample time before boarding our flight and decided to have our dinner early at Gordon Ramsay’s “Plane Food” Restaurant. We’re not too fond of airplane food…I had the most tender and delicious lamb and creamy mash – it was melt-in-your-mouth amazing!

Delicious cuisine before a long flight…

With our tummies full and ready to see our families again, we boarded our plane…and waited. Luckily Henning decided to take his sleeping pills later into the flight, since he always has trouble sleeping. We waited for 2 and a half hours for the toilet to be fixed on the aircraft – apparently one of the cleaning crew decided to flush a pillowcase down the loo – seriously! The captain announced that our flight was cancelled since the luggage hold was flooded with human waste – we were horrified! I could only imagine being confronted with blue covered suitcases… After a 40 minute wait at the luggage carousel I learned it was not the case – phew! Meanwhile Henning went ahead to find out the new details regarding our overnight stay and our new flight details, all arranged by BA). I have to admit that they did a great job considering!

Still in high spirits

We boarded a bus to take us to our Hotel for the evening. Turned out that the driver dropped us all at the wrong hotel, and we had to wait another hour or so before another driver finally took us to the right one.

Spirits getting lower

It was past one the following morning when we finally got to rest our weary bodies at the “stylish” Premier Inn…

Really? You don’t say…

We are currently in the process of immigrating to the UK, which explains my absence (a lot of stuff to sort) – I’m really sorry about that, but I promise to make it up to you with lots of fun posts ;-)
